Year 7 marks the next chapter in school life, as the pupils leave behind their primary schools and start secondary school life.
The aim of Year 7 is to build on primary school learning, settle into secondary school life and work towards their ‘personal best’.
In September pupils will sit CATs which, along with SATs results, the college will set appropriate clear goals for each individual pupil.
Year 7 are also working on SEALS where the year group are not only looking at academic learning but also the social aspects of learning, such as working in groups, building new friendships and creating a good working atmosphere.
During your first year we have different activities to look forward to such as a trip to the Catalyst museum, a Halloween walk in the dark, a two day trip to Quinta and a trip to see a Pantomime at Christmas.
The aim of Year 8 in 2009/2010 will be for students to aspire to achieve their personal best throughout the year. This is within subjects, in and around school and when taking part in extra curricular activities.
To support this; students will be taking part in an interactive and exciting SEAL programme during form times.
In February there is a weekend residential planned to Winmarleigh Hall in Blackpool. This opportunity is open to all Year 8 pupils dependent on behaviour and achievement. It is hoped that all will aspire to a place on this trip.
To enrich and broaden students’ sense of community and others we will be focusing on the local, national and international community by organising and running the shoe box appeal at Christmas and various other charity and fundraising activities throughout the year.
Year 9 is a very important year with many big decisions.
During the year pupils will hear about the many GCSE courses and alternatives available to them in preparation for choosing their options. This will finish with an options evening and a personalised one to one interview about their choices.
In September all the year group will be CAT tested. At the end of Year 9 all pupils will be given end of KS3 National Curriculum levels for all KS3 subjects.
Our fund raising focus will continue from Year 8 into Year 9 and we will be organising many more fun events to raise money to add to funds raised in previous years.
The aim of Year 10 in 2009/2010 is for all pupils to achieve success in all aspects of their school life.
Pupils will start the year taking new and exciting GCSE courses. To support the GCSE courses there will be a number of extra curricular revision sessions on offer to pupils.
To reward the pupils' success there will be a number of trips and other rewards on offer throughout the year.
The aim of Year 11 in 2009/2010 is for all pupils to achieve success at their own personal best level in every KS4 award they attempt.
There will be constant encouragement and support available from college to enable every young person to achieve their personal best in everything they undertake both in and out of college.
There will be lots of extra revision and coursework sessions organised including the revision weekend.
All students will have a Connexions interview and the opportunity to visit local 6th Form Colleges.
