Facilities

With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre was refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to College students and the community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles.

Sports Hall

The Sports Hall can accommodate the following:

5 a side football - whole Sports Hall

Badminton - whole or half Sports Hall

Keep Fit, Yoga or Dance - whole or half Sports Hall

Fitness Room

The Fitness Room is open from 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm every evening, and from 9:30 am - 5:00 pm on Saturday. No membership or joining fees apart from an Induction Fee of £5.40 which includes the first session, pay as you go £2.20 per adult and £1.10 for juniors 14yrs.

The fitness room provides pupils and the community with an opportunity to develop and improve their personal fitness with first-rate equipment.

Our gym equipment includes:

• 3 x treadmills
• 2 x cross trainers
• 2 x Concept 2 rowing machines
• 1 x upright bike
• 1 x recumbent bike
• 1 x leg press
• 1 x chest press
• 1 x shoulder press
• 1 x seated rower
• 1 x flat bench
• A selection of free weight dumbbells

Climbing Wall

Funding was secured through Cory Environmental to enable College to construct a climbing wall of a high specification for the benefit of students and the community.

Climbing Wall sessions include all safety instruction and coaching on how to climb. This provides a great opportunity for young people to try a new sport to develop trust, confidence and to meet new people in a safe environment.

With 12 top ropes, 2 auto belays and bolts for lead climbing the climbing wall is at the forefront of the PE department's new look. The wall itself is 6 metres high and has a multitude of routes, ranging from Difficult to E2, all of which offer many challenging and alternate ways to climb.

This climbing wall has helped to develop the current curriculum in place in the PE department giving pupils a wider choice for GCSE PE and Core PE lessons.

There are ‘Saturday Morning Climbing and Trampolining’ clubs: (Minimum age 8 years)

Fully qualified staff, and all equipment provided.
Sessions run from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
£5.40 for a two hour session.

Adult Climbing sessions are run on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm.
Full instruction is given. Learn new skills and exercise while having fun.
No experience is needed and all abilities are catered for.
£5.40 for the full session with all equipment supplied.

The Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)

The MUGA at Haydock Sports College was completed in May 2007. The MUGA is a multi-purpose surface which enables a large variety of sports to be accessed by Haydock’s students, pupils from local primary schools and also the wider community, particularly local sports clubs and sports' academies.

Another benefit is that the Sports Hall at the College will now be available for a wider variety of minority sports such as climbing, rowing, aerobics, kickboxing, cricket and badminton. If you would like to book this facility, please telephone 01744 678833 or 01744 677505 (after 5:00 pm).

Archery

Indoor and Outdoor Archery Club.
Saturdays 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
£5.40 per session.
Whether you are experienced or have never had the opportunity to try Archery, come and join us at our Archery Club at Haydock Leisure Centre. All our instructors are fully qualified and our equipment is some of the best offered.

We offer Archery for group bookings, birthday parties and corporate/team building events.

Experienced Archers Club.
Tuesday evenings 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Along with our already very successful ‘Teaching Beginners’ Archery Club we now have an Archery Club for the more experienced Archers who want to come along and do some shooting. The cost of each ‘Shoot’ is £3 and we have a full range of equipment available if required. GNAS qualified instructors will be managing each session in their role as Field Captain.
